Bush Creek East fire being held, evacuation alerts lifted

Sep 26, 2023 | 8:25 AM

A wildfire that terrorized the Adams Lake and North Shuswap areas is now considered ‘being held’.

The B.C. Wildfire Service made the announcement Monday (Sept. 25). It means the Bush Creek East wildfire is no longer likely to spread beyond its current boundaries.

When the fire is finally extinguished, it will have consumed 45,613 hectares.

In August, the fire merged with the Lower East Adams Lake wildfire and made a lengthy run south toward the North Shuswap communities of Lee Creek and Scotch Creek, destroying large swaths of both villages.

The Thompson Nicola Regional District has downgraded all evacuation alerts to all clear. The Columbia Shuswap Regional District has done the same, except for some individual properties who remain under tactical evacuation order due to damage sustained.
