Youth skills camp offered for 2023 Kalamalka Bowl

Jun 26, 2023 | 1:00 PM

The second annual Kal Tire Kalamalka Bowl will be held Aug. 23 at the Greater Vernon Athletics Park (GVAP) but the day before that will be a chance for young football players to learn from some of the best.

As part of the event, the Kalamalka Bowl Society will host a two-hour skills camp at the park led by the coaches and select players from the UBC Thunderbirds. This includes three-time national champion and former CIS coach of the year Blake Nill.

โ€œThe skills camp promises to bring the highest level of football coaching in Canada to our Okanagan youth,โ€ the organizers said.

The camp will be held Tuesday, Aug. 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. It will cost $35 which includes a ticket to the Kalamalka Bowl game on Aug. 23

Meantime, ticket sales continue for the 7 p.m. game featuring the UBC Thunderbirds against the University of Alberta Golden Bears.

The tickets are on sale through Eventbrite which can be accessed through kalbowl.com

Bleacher seating is $30 a ticket with individual numbered seats.

โ€œThese seats are limited and sold quickly last year. People wishing bleacher seating are encouraged to purchase early,โ€ the society stated.

General admission is $12 a ticket which allows access to the game without seating.

More than 2,000 people came out for the inaugural Kal Bowl game on a warm summer night last August.

The last time T-Birds and Bears met was October 29, 2022 in Edmonton with Alberta winning 15-12. The two teams have met 85 times in regular season or playoff competition since 1972 for a total record of 51 wins for the Thunderbirds, 36 for the Golden Bears and 2 ties.
