Armstrong-Spallumcheen Chamber charts course

The Armstrong-Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce has set out plans for the next five years to grow the economy in the region.

The plan developed by Brabyn Business Solutions looked at the strengths of the organization, identifying six key area’s.

Two elected representatives
The board
Indigenous Community Partnerships
Partnerships with other business organizations
Volunteers

“The Chamber has a dedicated executive director who is invested in the community and provides exceptional services and support to the businesses and organizations of their member communities,” report author Robyn Cyr stated of executive director Patti Noonan.

Growth areas identified include fine tuning an economic development function, to retain, expand and attract new businesses to the city and township, including affordable housing as an attraction for workers.

Tourism marketing and destination development will involve an update of the 2014 tourism plan and partnering with tourism operators on marketing efforts.

Chamber of commerce services were also looked at with the majority recommended to continue with additional board engagement and more staff hours to support the executive director.

The report suggested additional community engagement with chamber members, the community, stakeholders and youth.

“The board and staff will now review this document and make the decision how the recommendations will be implemented,” Cyr said. “The final step in this strategic plan will be to develop an implementation plan with priorities and timelines to determine the future work of the Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce.”
