Foundation looks for new members with diverse backgrounds

Oct 30, 2022 | 12:00 PM

The Community Foundation North Okanagan (CFNO) is seeking community-minded individuals with an interest in making a lasting impact in the region to join its various committees and board of directors.

“Community Foundations are known first and foremost for our granting programs. We need a few people to join our community grants committee, as well as a few people on our governance committee, and on our Board of Directors,” said Leanne Hammond, executive director, adding that the organization is prioritizing applicants under age 45 from diverse backgrounds across the North Okanagan.

“Having volunteers from different groups, ages, ethnicities and communities allows us to better represent the diversity of experience in our region and to make decisions that help us grow as an organization,” Hammond explained.

Volunteer members of the community grants committee help by making grant recommendations after reviewing online applications considering community needs, equity issues, existing resources, and potential to make an impact.

Volunteer members of the board of directors have the chance to learn about philanthropy as a vehicle for social change, participate in big picture thinking, and contribute to the strategy and direction of the Community Foundation North Okanagan.

“Both committee member and board member roles allow volunteers to make a significant difference and participate in strengthening the social fabric of our region,” Hammond remarked.
