Jul 21, 2022 | 4:04 PM

The B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) is reporting increasing cases of COVID-19 in B.C. while figures are dropping locally in the Interior.

The centre’s weekly report stated there were 1,044 cases of COVID-19 recorded in B.C. between July 10 and 16, 143 of which were in the Interior.

Those figures are up on a week-over-week basis as the last reporting period confirmed 973 cases in B.C. and 111 in the Interior.

Despite the provincial and regional figures increasing, the local figures were down.

Five cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the Vernon health area in the latest reporting week, down from the 10 confirmed cases the week prior.

Additionally, the overall hospitalizations and deaths linked to COVID-19 were down in the latest report.

The BCCDC confirmed 246 hospital admissions due to COVID in B.C. that week, down from 262 the week before. The Interior did see a slight increase in hospitalizations rising from 26 the past week to 27 in the latest report.

There were 21 British Columbians who died due to COVID-19 in the week that ended July 16, down from the 29 deaths the previous week. In the Interior, there were three deaths linked to the virus, which was the same as the week before.

To date, there have been 377,372 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in B.C., 67,071 of which were in the Interior, 5,590 of those from within Greater Vernon.

A total of 3,853 British Columbians, including 548 people from the Interior, have died due to the virus.

The BCCDC did not provide hospitalization or death data specific to health areas.
