Wine lovers pack Vernon event

Feb 21, 2022 | 12:20 PM

The first Vernon Wine Show was such a hit, organizers have already set the date for the next one, and plan to hold it twice a year.

The food and wine festival was held at Wings Vernon on Sunday, Feb. 20.

Shay Ritchot, restaurant manager, says the event was a huge success.

“It was packed from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The comments were so positive. The food and wine were excellent, but mostly, everyone was so happy to be out together having fun,” Ritchot remarked.

The wine show will run at least twice a year, with the next one set for Sunday, June 11, just prior to the summer season. The event is still in the planning stages, but will feature a broad selection of wineries, and more culinary treats.

“We were happy to deliver a fully-fledged show this early in the year. Many events have been pushed because of continued COVID-19 restrictions. We’ve now got our aim on brighter days in spring as well,” said Katie Dahl, owner of Wings Vernon.

“I had to pour for one of the wineries that was short staff and the response was overwhelming. Everyone thanked us for doing the event,” Dahl added.

Dahl said there will be a strong presence in June from wineries around the Okanagan, eager to share their wines, knowledge and stories with wine lovers.

“Many restaurants in Vernon support Okanagan wines and the choices for wine lovers are vast,” she said.
