COVID-19 cases in the Interior continue upwards trend

The Interior’s upwards trend of COVID-19 cases continued Tuesday.

Interior Health’s active case count rose to 7,297 Tuesday as 319 new infections were identified in the region.

The cases were part of 1,446 reported throughout B.C. Tuesday, as the provincial active case count rose to 32,468.

The number of British Columbians hospitalized due to COVID-19 decreased to 985 Tuesday (down by 2), though the number of patients in intensive care rose to 144 (increase of 15).

One death linked to COVID-19 was confirmed in the Fraser Health area. To date, 2,554 British Columbians have died due to the virus.

The province’s vaccination rates for residents aged five and over rose to 89.6 per cent for first doses and 83.6 per cent for second jabs Tuesday.

Additionally, 92.6 per cent of people aged 12 and over and 90.4 per cent of adults in B.C. have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. The second dose rates were recorded at 89.9 per cent for the 12 and over group and 90.4 per cent for the adult British Columbians, while the third dose rates were recorded at 41.3 per cent and 44.2 per cent, respectively.

No health care facilities were identified as new outbreak sites, though one in Vancouver Coastal health was declared over. As of Tuesday there were 63 facilities considered active outbreak sites, including 14 in the Interior
