RCMP remove numerous impaired drivers from North Okanagan roads

Several people will be riding the bus or getting the bike out of the shed for their daily commutes after losing their licenses and vehicles due to being impaired.

Between noon Friday and 4 a.m. Monday, Vernon North Okanagan RCMP officers issued 11 alcohol-related driving prohibitions to motorists.

Eight of those drivers were served 90-day alcohol driving prohibitions and 30-day vehicle impounds, while the other three were issued lesser alcohol-related bans.

“Impaired driving continues to be a concern on our roads,” states Constable Chris Terleski, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP.

“The consequences of impaired driving can be deadly. Whether by alcohol or drug, if you choose to drive while impaired, you are not only putting yourself at risk, but others as well.”

The RCMP asks anyone who suspects a driver of being intoxicated and pose a threat to public safety to call 911 and provide dispatch with a license plate number, the make and model of the vehicle in question, a description of the driver, and location of the vehicle and direction of travel.
