Silverbacks jump to top of BCHL with win over Vipers

Nov 25, 2021 | 5:45 AM

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks took over top spot in the BC Hockey League with a 5-2 win over the visiting Vernon Vipers Wednesday night.

Simon Tassy led the Silverbacks with a goal and two assists to earn first star honours before a crowd of 420 at the Shaw Centre.

Salmon Arm now has 25 points in 16 games, tops in the BCHL, one ahead of Penticton and West Kelowna.

Tyler Chan and Matt Culling scored for Vernon who were down 4-0 by the second period.

A fight later in the second led to game misconducts for Viper Jack Glen and Aiden Lindblad of the Silverbacks.

Vernon next plays Friday night against the Prince George Spruce Kings at Kal Tire Place at 7:00 p.m., also to be broadcast on 107.5 Beach Radio and on Vernon Matters. That’s the start of a five game home stand for the Vipers.
