Active cases in the Interior drop to 642 Tuesday

The amount of active COVID-19 cases in the Interior continued their downward trend Tuesday, falling to 642.

The Ministry of Health reports the decline of 13 active cases from the day before despite recording 83 new ones in the region Tuesday.

The new cases were part of 457 recorded province-wide, and British Columbia’s active COVID-19 case as of Tuesday was 4,829.

The Ministry of Health and the B.C. Centre for Disease Control note that over the past week, 56.9 per cent of new cases were identified in the unvaccinated, and 36 per cent were in those who had received both jabs.

The province reported 390 British Columbians were in hospital due to COVID-19 complications, 155 of whom were in intensive care.

BCCDC stats show that over the past two weeks, 69.6 per cent of patients were unvaccinated, compared with 23.8 per cent who had both doses.

There were also two deaths from the Fraser Health and Northern Health jurisdictions reported Tuesday, and to day a total of 2,131 British Columbians have died due to COVID-19.

The province also noted that the first dose vaccination rate for British Columbians age 12 and over increased to 89.6 per cent Tuesday, and that 84.5 per cent of eligible recipients have received their second dose.

As of Tuesday there were 28 health-care facility outbreak sites in the province, five of which are located in the Interior.

  • Cottonwoods Care Centre in Kelowna : 55 resident and 15 staff cases, 15 deaths
  • Overlander Long-Term Care in Kamloops: 21 resident and seven staff cases, five deaths
  • Village by the Station long-term care in Penticton : 27 resident and 14 staff cases, three deaths
  • Haven Hill Care Centre in Penticton: 10 resident and two staff cases, one death
  • Deni House long-term care in Williams Lake: 10 resident and two staff cases
