COVID-19 surge continues unchecked
There have been 1,262 new COVID-19 infections in the past 24 hours, the second highest number of daily cases since the pandemic began over a year ago.
“There are 9,574 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, with 15,673 people under public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases. A further 98,336 people who tested positive have recovered.” Dr. Bonnie Henry reported in her Friday media briefing.
Of the active cases, 332 individuals are currently hospitalized with 102 in intensive care.
There are 358 (28.4 per cent) new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 638 (50.6 per cent) new cases in the Fraser Health region, 54 (4.3 per cent) in the Island Health region, 132 (10.5 per cent) in the Interior Health region, 79 (6.3 per cent) in the Northern Health region and one new case (0.1 per cent) of a person who resides outside of Canada.
