Support local business

Agents needed for ‘Mission Possible’

The Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce has come up with a fun way to support local businesses and perhaps land you a staycation.

Between April 5 and May 2, Greater Vernon residents are being asked to act as secret agents for Mission Possible, a shop local initiative of the Greater Vernon Chamber, sponsored by Tourism Vernon.

The Mission Possible program, a play on the famous Mission Impossible action spy film series, aims to be a fun, engaging way to entice Vernon residents to support local businesses.

“Using your super spy skills to unravel a series of clues and tasks, you will scout and infiltrate local businesses,” Dan Proulx, Greater Vernon Chamber general manager and intelligence officer for this operation said. “The end game is to learn more about Vernon’s business owners who are constantly adapting to the fast- paced environment of business in a Covid world.”

By participating in the Mission Possible campaign, you will directly support Greater Vernon’s local economy. Every week, you will find a list of tasks at https://www.vernonchamber.ca/mission-possible/ and the clock will be ticking, so make sure your assignments are completed before the list dissolves and a new set of tasks appear.

All tasks for each week must be completed to submit your entry for the grand prize – a staycation for two people at Sparkling Hill Resort, including a round of golf at The Rise, and dinner at Marten Brew Pub.

Prizes will be drawn at the end of each week and the Ultimate Staycation grand prize valued over $1000 will be selected from all entries May 15.

“Throughout the global pandemic and resulting travel restrictions, Vernon’s tourism businesses have seen, first hand, how locals can make a positive economic impact by enjoying what their own community has to offer. Without tourists, local businesses are really depending on local residents to be tourists in their own town. Vernon has so much to offer and Mission Possible strives to truly task Vernon residents with supporting local businesses,” Torrie Silverthorn, tourism coordinator for Tourism Vernon said.
