A project to upgrade the elevator in Vernon’s downtown parkade on 31st Avenue is expected to take over two months.

“The much-needed upgrade is part of the city’s building condition asset management plan and was earmarked as a priority project within the approved 2020 capital plan for a total cost of $200,000,” a city news release informed.

Work on the elevator will begin Thursday April 1 and is anticipated to be complete by mid-June.

“During this time, the west stairway will be closed from time to time while the contractor refurbishes the car; however, the north stairway will remain open for pedestrians,” the city release said.

All accessible parking stalls are located on the main floor of the parkade and will remain available to the public.

The city apologizes for any inconvenience this temporary closure of the elevator may cause.
