Vipers and Silverbacks split their weekend series

Nov 1, 2020 | 5:30 AM

The Vernon Vipers had a goal from Luke Pakulak, while newcomer Koen MacInnes stopped 17 of 18 in regulation, but the Vipers fell 2-1 in a shootout to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks Saturday night at Kal Tire Place.

In the second Pakulak, a Surrey B.C. product,  netted a loose puck for his first goal in junior hockey.  That score would hold after 2 periods.

A Salmon Arm powerplay in the second half of the period had Drew Bennett tipping home a point shot to tie the game up.

In overtime, both teams went end to end multiple times, but goaltending and defense were up to the challenge.

In a shootout Carter Loney would score the only goal to give Salmon Arm the extra point.

The Vipers (3-4-1-2) are back in action next weekend when they have a home and home series with the Penticton Vees (9-1-0-0).

The Vernon Vipers got goals from WHL products Josh Prokop ad Tyler Carpendale in a 4-1 win over the Salmon Arm Silverbacks at the Shaw Centre Friday night.

The Vipers improved to 3-4-1-1 in the BCHL exhibition season for the Okanagan Cup.

Ethan Mercer and Zack Tonelli also scored for Vernon who host the Silverbacks at Kal Tire Place on Halloween night, a 6 p.m. game on 107.5 Beach Radio.

Viper goalie Roan Clarke was named the first star with 21 saves.
