UPDATE Police and coroner investigate sudden death in downtown Vernon

UPDATE 11: 30 a.m.

RCMP and the B.C. Coroner’s Service are investigating what is being called a sudden death in downtown Vernon.

Emergency personnel were called to a site on 30th Avenue around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday (Sept 16).

“Vernon North Okanagan frontline officers responded to a sudden death in the 3300-block of 30th Avenue,” said Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer. “No criminality is suspected and the B.C. Coroners Service is conducting an independent and concurrent fact-finding investigation to determine how, where, when and by what means they came to their unexpected death.  Neither agency has additional information to release at this time.”

Eyewitnesses told Vernon Matters a man was found dead on the bench in front of Dorian’s Greek Taverna.

11:20 a.m. story

RCMP and the B.C. Coroner’s Service are on the scene of an incident in downtown Vernon.

The emergency personnel are gathered outside Dorian’s Greek Taverna where a sheet appears to be covering a person.

Eyewitnesses say a person was found dead on the bench in front of the restaurant around 10:30 this morning (Sept. 16).

Vernon Matters has reached out to RCMP for details.

Traffic is slow going through the area of the incident.
