B.C. Covid update: 97 new cases, 6 in Interior

The B.C. government has announced 97 new COVID-19 cases since Monday, bringing the provincial total to 7,376 since the pandemic started.

Six of the new cases are in the Interior Health (IH) region.

There are 19 active cases in the Interior with one person in hospital.

The number of active cases provincially has gone down slightly from Monday, to 1,590, while another 3,001 people are under active public health monitoring due to exposure to known cases, and 5,548 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are 63 people in hospitals with COVID-19, 20 of those in intensive care.

There have been no new COVID-19 related deaths, for a total of 219 deaths in B.C.

There has been one new health-care facility outbreak at OPAL by Element in the Vancouver Coastal Health region. In total, 11 long-term care or assisted-living facilities and three acute-care facilities have active outbreaks.

There have been no new community outbreaks.

Provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, and Health minister Adrian Dix said in a statement, residents need to do their part to break the chains of transmission in B.C.

“We must hold steady with our layers of protection. From keeping safe distances, to washing our hands, staying home, and staying away from others when we are ill and have symptoms of COVID-19, we must all do our part. And if we do have symptoms, contact 811 to arrange to get tested.”
