Left Hand Turn Causes Crash

Left Hand Turn Causes Crash

Jan 30, 2019 | 12:30 PM

A driver was given a ticket for failing to yield on a left turn after a crash that backed up traffic on the Lake Country-Kelowna border this morning.

Police say a southbound car (Chevrolet Malibu) was trying to turn onto Commonwealth Road around 8 am and collided with an oncoming SUV (Ford Escape), blocking the northbound lanes of Highway 97.

“Both vehicles sustained moderate front end damage in the crash. Each had air bags deployed and were towed from the scene,” says RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

Police say both drivers were from Lake Country, with no serious injuries.

“The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu, a Lake Country woman in her 30’s, was transported to hospital by BC Ambulance Service as a precaution,” says O’Donaghey. “She was fined under the BC Motor Vehicle Act for allegedly failing to yield on a left turn.”

The driver of the Ford was medically assessed and released at the scene by emergency paramedics.

“She was travelling with three dogs, who reportedly seemed unharmed in the collision,” says the Corporal.
