UPDATE
One person had to be airlifted to hospital after a fiery crash in Spallumcheen this morning.
Police say a northbound small SUV went off Highway 97A near McLeod Road around 8 am.
The vehicle then hit a culvert, rolled, and caught fire.
“All occupants were able to escape the vehicle prior to it being consumed by fire. One passenger had what was believed to be serious, but non-life threatening injuries, and was air lifted to the nearest medical facility,” says Cst. Kelly Brett.
Brett says the occupants were very lucky to get out of the vehicle before it ignited.
“Numerous citizens stopped to render assistance to the occupants of the vehicle, keeping them safe until emergency crews arrived on scene.”
Speed, road conditions or impairment were not factors in the collision.
The highway was closed for a short period to allow emergency crews to work.

First responders have been attending to an accident just north of Armstrong on Highway 97A.
Callers tell us a vehicle apparently crashed and then caught fire near Mountain View Road this morning.
Crews have been on scene putting out the blaze.
Traffic has been backed up.
There is no word on any injuries or the cause.
Beach Radio News has requested details from the RCMP.
