Update: Arson Suspect Sentenced

UPDATE

A man who started several fires around the Vernon area five years ago, has been sentenced to prison.

William Munton was given a three year term, which after credit for time served, he will spend another 2 years and 10 months behind bars.

The 57 year old plead guilty back in October to seven of 19 arson charges he was facing in BC Supreme Court.

The Crown and defence made a joint submission, calling for the three year term for the former teacher.

Among the fires Munton started was one in July 2014 that destroyed the Kin Race Track grandstand, a former horse racing facility.

A serial fire starter who who had the Vernon area on edge in 2014, will find out his sentence today.

57 year old William Munton plead guilty to seven of the 19 arson charges he was facing in October in BC Supreme Court, avoiding a scheduled three week jury trial that was set to start that day.

The biggest blaze was one in July 2014 that burned down the grandstand at Kin Race Track, while others were set in fruit bins, some wooden pallets, a home under construction, and a boat.
