RDNO supports evacuation route planning for Kingfisher
After wildfires tore through the Mable Lake area last summer, representatives with the Regional District of North Okanagan have voted in support of a grant application that would go towards updating and expanding an evacuation route plan for the community of Kingfisher.
The District says the community only has one access road in and one access road out and an improved evacuation route is necessary because it is prone to a number of natural disasters like wildfires and floods.
About three hundred people live in Kingfisher year round but their population spikes to about five thousand in the summer, according to the RDNO.
“The people out there are really involved in getting an emergency plan and working with FireSmart, and this grant would really help us a lot,” said Electoral Area F Director Denis Delisle.
