Flu Season Not Over

Flu Season Not Over

Jan 10, 2019 | 2:46 PM

Interior Health says influenza activity continues to increase across the region.

The dominant strain this year is influenza A H1N1, which mostly affects children and non-elderly adults.

Medical health officer Dr. Silvina Mema says that strain is included in this year’s vaccine.

She says with several months left in the flu season, it’s not too late to get a shot.

“The flu shot is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from influenza and influenza-related complications,” says Mema. “This year’s vaccine has shown to be a good match for the strains of influenza circulating this season.”

The influenza vaccine is still available across the region at public health centres, as well as some pharmacies and physician offices.
