Update 9 am

A crash south of Vernon Sunday killed one person.

RCMP say just after 3 pm, three vehicles collided on the highway near Birnie Road, taking the life of a woman.

“Upon officers arrival, good Samaritans were administering first aid to those injured, however one woman died as a result of her injuries. Other injured parties were
transported to the nearest medical facility,” says Cst. Kelly Brett.

Brett says witnesses say one vehicle was driving dangerously just before the crash occurred, with the investigation into the cause ongoing.

“A total of three vehicles and seven people were involved in the collision. At the time of writing, status of other injured parties is unknown,” says Brett.

No other details have been released.

The road’s southbound lanes were closed for several hours, re-opening around 11 Sunday night.

Three other people died in crashes in BC over the weekend in Field, Fernie and Richmond.

Police have yet to release details on an accident that closed down the southbound lanes of Highway 97 south of Vernon Sunday.

It reportedly took place near Bernie Road which is the turnoff to the landfill.

Reports say one vehicle was almost on its roof in the ditch in an apparent rollover, and a pickup was damaged.

The southbound lanes reopened Sunday night.
