UPDATE: 3:30 p.m.

A plan for another hotel along Anderson Way will proceed after Vernon city council granted a variance permit Monday.

The approval allows the 114-room Best Western Premier hotel to proceed to construction.

Councillor Scott Anderson said he was pleased to see a hotel going in on the land across from Superstore which he said was currently useful for “shopping carts and campaign signs.”

ORIGINAL STORY:

A plan for a new six storey hotel in Vernon will before city council today, seeking a variance permit.

A Best Western Premier Hotel is planned for 5350 Anderson Way, across from the Superstore, one of two hotels proposed for that area.

The applicant is seeking variances to reduce the on-site loading spaces from four to two — and to vary a landscape buffer on the north end of Anderson Way from 3 metres to 2.29 metres, and from 3 metres to 1.3 m for the rest of the front yard.

The hotel would have 114 suites, and a restaurant.

A Four Points Sheraton Hotel is also being planned for that area, at 5400 Anderson Way.
