Cannabis Free City?

It’s still early, but at this point, Armstrong had had no interest in potential pot shops.

Mayor Chris Pieper says the city is open to receiving applications, but hasn’t received any so far.

“We, like a lot of communities, are watching what’s happening around the province, so we’ll play it by ear and see what happens,” Pieper tells Beach Radio News.

Pieper says as long as the retailers plan to operate in a commercial area, they would probably forward the application to the province for approval.

“That’s the primary approval process, and the have to provide a cheque for $7500 to the government, so I think that’s holding people back,” says the veteran mayor.

Nearby Enderby has had three applications, and will hold a public hearing on those tonight.

Kelowna has had interest from 40 retailers, and Vernon did not provide its numbers as requested by Beach Radio News.
