The news of the closure came as a disappointment to some customers.

“It’s going to be disappointing because I’m here almost every day,” Mike told Vernon Matters outside the Starbucks. “It’s about the people. We see the same people, the same employees every day, and we get to know them on a first-name basis. It’s disappointing, and our hearts go out to them.”

“I used to work next door so I used to go quite often and it’s very sad they are all losing their jobs,” Avery, carrying cups of coffee after exiting the store, stated. “I think it probably brings a lot of business to the mall too.

However, the closure announcement was not as jarring to others.

“I’m not happy to see them shut down but I mean business is business,” Rick told Vernon Matters. “I used to run a big corporation too and you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.”

The closure announcement comes following Starbucks stating it planned to close 250 locations across North America.

There will still be two Starbucks locations in Vernon following the shutdown of the store in the mall, one on Highway 97/32nd Street, and one on Anderson Way. There is also the Starbucks kiosk inside the Vernon Square Safeway.

Starbucks could not be reached for immediate comment about the closure.
