Go By Bike brings documentary screening and group rides to Vernon

Go By Bike Society will air a crowdsourced documentary and hold a series of rides early this week.

At 6 p.m. on Tuesday, the film MOTHERLOAD will be aired at the Vernon Library.

The documentary follows new mother Liz Canning as she looks to use a cargo bike in understanding the tensions between modern life and the hunter-gatherer DNA. The film sees Canning meet people behind the push to move from vehicles to purpose-built bicycles for their daily use, as well as learn the history and potential future of the bicycle as the “ultimate social revolutionizer.”

Following the screening there will be a discussion about the documentary, a prize draw, and activities.

Go By Bike will also host a series of rides this week.

At 8 a.m. Tuesday there will be a Build Your Confidence Ride. The event will see people mount their bikes for a relaxed morning ride starting in the downtown core. People can sign up for the ride online here.

Then, at 4 p.m. Wednesday, there will be a guided e-bike ride from Predator Ridge to Bailey Road. This event will offer participants a chance to try the powered bikes with a 50 per cent discount on their rental, build their cycling skills and confidence, and learn the route.
