Province seeking input for new Thompson Okanagan forest management plan  

The province is putting together a new plan to guide forest management in the region and is asking residents for their input.

The tmíxʷ naqscn Forest Landscape Plan, being developed in collaboration with First Nations, aims to manage the values placed on forest ecosystems by First Nations and local communities; support the protection and conservation of the environment; support production and supply of timber in the forest landscape area; and prevent, mitigate and adapt to effects caused by disturbances to forests and forest health.

In developing the plan the province wanted to hear from the public and will be holding open houses in Coldstream, Kamloops, Ashcroft, Merritt, Princeton and Keremeos.

The local open house will be held at Coldstream Community Hall from 6:30 to 8 p.m. June 8.
