Apartment fire caused significant damages, but believed to be accidental

Mar 27, 2026 | 2:23 PM

A fire that broke out at a Vernon apartment building Wednesday morning is not being considered suspicious or criminal.

The City of Vernon said, on behalf of Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS), that the fire broke out in a unit on the ground floor of Parkview Garden Apartments around 6 a.m. on March 25, and quickly spread to several other units.

Due to the severity of the fire and the extent of the damage done, VFRS was unable to identify a specific cause of the blaze, but did classify it as accidental in nature.

Four units were significantly damaged and considered uninhabitable as of March 27, while several others were still being assessed and would require repairs before the occupants could return home.

The city said the property manager anticipated that eight units would be ready for occupancy within a few days, with the other units to be ready for the residents to return home shortly thereafter.

Emergency Support Services was assisting the residents displaced by the fire.
