Conflict Reduction Sessions

New Parent-Teen Conflict Support Group coming to Vernon

Mar 26, 2026 | 6:01 AM

Parents and teenagers looking to break free of conflict and communicate better with each other will have a new resource to access locally.

North Okanagan Family Youth Support Society (NOYFSS) will be running a new Parent-Teen Conflict Support Group.

The group will help parents learn how teenagers behaviours, emotions and communication patterns are shaped, and offer space for people to share stories, compare experiences, and learn from each other. The group sessions will also see both teens and parents learn practical strategies to reduce conflict rather than escalate it.

“Being a parent doesn’t mean giving up boundaries,” Mackenzie Last, Counsellor and Support Group Facilitator at NOYFSS, stated.

“It means setting clear expectations while still staying connected. This group will help parents build a home environment that feels supportive and respectful, even during tough moments.”

The program will start Monday, April 13, with a session going from 5:30 to 7 p.m. People can register for the group online here, and NOYFSS said it will be offered on a drop-in format with no need for people to attend every week.
