Burtch Road to close for months as city expands major corridor

Mar 9, 2026 | 11:08 AM

Kelowna drivers should expect major disruptions starting Wednesday.

Burtch Road closes north and south of the Byrns and Guisachan roundabout for seven months. The closure, between Denver Road and the Balmoral Strata, supports construction of the Burtch Road extension.

The project will add two travel lanes, a left-turn lane, protected bike lanes, sidewalks, street trees, new crosswalks, intersection and roundabout upgrades, and a new traffic signal at KLO Road.

Guisachan Road and Byrns Road will remain open between Gordon Drive and Benvoulin Road.

City officials are urging motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians to use alternate routes and follow posted construction signage. Safety personnel will be on site to guide traffic and ensure the area remains safe.
