Gastrointestinal illness outbreak declared at Armstrong facility
A gastrointestinal illness outbreak has been declared at an Armstrong long-term care facility.
Interior Health says the outbreak was discovered in the Rosedale Building of Pleasant Valley Manor Tuesday, Feb. 23, though the exact illness is not known as of time of publication.
“Gastrointestinal illnesses are spread from person to person through stool or vomit of infected people,” IH said in its explanation about the outbreak.
“People can become infected by eating contaminated food or touching contaminated surfaces and then placing their hands in their mouth. These micro organisms can live on surfaces (such as countertops, doorknobs and toilet seats), so can easily be spread when a person touches something contaminated.”
