Aberdeen Plateau Guidance Plan moving forward

Feb 4, 2026 | 10:52 AM

Some progress has been made on the plan aimed at protecting and enhancing the local watershed.

In November, the Regional District of North Okanagan, District of Lake Country, and Okanagan Indian Band endorsed the framework for the North Aberdeen Plateau Guidance Plan.

The plan aims to protect the watershed that feeds the area communities by making it more resilient, less susceptible to wildfires, and better reflect cultural values.

Since the plan was endorsed, the local partners have met with the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship, which committed to working hand-in-hand to better understand partnership goals, current initiatives, and develop a collaborative approach to establish shared milestones that would move the project forward. The ministry also told the partners it would work to bring in the Ministry of Forestry as a partner.
