The targeted traffic enforcement operation took place on Enterprise Way near Banks Road and led to several tickets and arrests, according to Kelowna RCMP.

On Jan. 6, officers from the Kelowna Municipal Traffic Unit focused on distracted driving and vehicle compliance over a 90-minute blitz. The operation resulted in 27 Motor Vehicle Act violation tickets, including 22 for using a cellphone while driving, one for tinted windows, and one for driving without insurance.

During the enforcement, officers assisted local loss prevention staff with a shoplifting investigation. One suspect, allegedly involved in three thefts within an hour, tried to flee and was arrested by traffic members. The suspect remains in custody.

A second incident involved a possible shoplifter who left a nearby business as a passenger in a vehicle. Police stopped the vehicle, issuing multiple infractions and impounded it.

“Distracted driving and vehicle compliance remain ongoing safety priorities for our community,” said Cpl. Allison Konsmo, media relations officer with the Kelowna RCMP. “We appreciate the partnership with local retailers and their loss prevention teams, whose timely information helps us respond and keep our roads and businesses safe.”
