A snowmobiler was rescued from the Aberdeen Plateau thanks in part to the Vernon Search and Rescue repel team.

VSAR said in a social media post that it was called to assist with the rescue of an injured snowmobiler in the backcountry Saturday, Dec. 27.

The local search and rescue agency deployed 19 members in trucks, on snowmobiles, and in the air via an Air Rescue One Heli Winch Society aircraft after a rider hit a rutted road, rolled over the machine, and injured themselves.

The call for assistance came from other riders who were out with the injured snowmobilers and was made using a Zoleo SOS device.

“Upon arrival, the patient was assessed and then transported by VSAR’s Air Rescue One helicopter, where care was transferred to B.C. Emergency Health Services,” VSAR said in its post.

“We wish the patient a smooth and speedy recovery.”

VSAR added that group deserved to be recognized for having the satellite communication device and other essential equipment that was used to give the patient care while awaiting rescue, and encouraged others to carry those types of items when recreating in the back country.
