Okanagan drivers warned of strong winds and snow across B.C. interior

Dec 8, 2025 | 10:36 AM

Environment Canada has issued multiple weather alerts across the Okanagan and B.C. Interior as a strong Pacific frontal system moves through the region.

Five alerts and warnings are in effect, including high winds along the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna and heavy snowfall on the Trans-Canada Highway near Rogers Pass.

Residents in the Okanagan region, including Vernon and Kelowna areas, are urged to take extra precautions, especially on exposed highways and in mountain passes.

Winds along regional highways are expected to reach up to 90 kilometres per hour, posing risks for high-sided vehicles. Additional gusts of up to 80 kilometres per hour are forecast across parts of the South Thompson, Nicola, Similkameen, Fraser Canyon, and Coquihalla Highway corridors.

Snowfall totals of 20 to 30 centimetres are predicted along the Trans-Canada Highway between Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass, with strong winds creating blowing snow.

Environment Canada cautions that mountain roads can become hazardous quickly and advises drivers to monitor conditions, adjust travel plans, and consult DriveBC for the latest road information.
