Busy season

Holiday rush brewing at Kelowna International Airport

Dec 8, 2025 | 11:19 AM

Kelowna International Airport is preparing for a surge in travellers as the holiday season approaches.

More than 188,000 passengers are expected to pass through the airport between Dec. 17 and Jan. 6, making it the busiest travel period of the year. Mondays, Fridays and Sundays are expected to see the highest traffic.

YLW officials say staff are ready to help travellers move through the terminal, but passengers are being advised to plan ahead and be prepared for longer waits than usual.

The airport is urging people to check its website for daily passenger estimates and peak security screening periods. Travellers should also confirm their flight status directly with their airline before heading to the airport.

Parking is expected to reach capacity during the holiday rush. YLW recommends using alternate transportation or pre-booking valet parking. Drivers picking up passengers can use the cellphone waiting area free of charge until their travellers are ready at the terminal curb.

Passengers are being told to arrive at least two hours before departure and complete steps such as check-in, baggage fees and downloading boarding passes online to help speed up the process.
