Kelowna outlines community safety priorities for 2026 budget

Dec 5, 2025 | 11:58 AM

Kelowna city council was presented Tuesday with an overview of community safety investments proposed in the city’s preliminary 2026 budget, including continued work to address crime, social issues and emergency response capacity.

The spending plan maintains funding for the Journey Home strategy, additional bylaw services, and the Community Safety Plan, while also supporting mental health outreach and programs aimed at helping vulnerable residents.

The budget anticipates continued growth pressures as well as rising costs for RCMP services over the next three years. Staff say policing remains the largest single investment in safety, with costs climbing as the city’s population expands.

The city also plans to boost resources for fire services, including staffing and training, to match increased urban density and development.
