Tiki Village Motel shuttered due to fire code, safety concerns

Nov 19, 2025 | 3:20 PM

The motel located on the corner of 25th Avenue and 34th Street has evicted its tenants.

The City of Vernon said Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) identified numerous fire code violations and safety concerns at the Village Tiki Motor Inn over the past several months.

“Due to inaction by the property management representative, our Fire Prevention Officer issued fines in late October and early November 2025 in accordance with municipal bylaws,” the city said in a media release.

“During an inspection last week, the property owner notified all tenants residing at the motel that they would be required to vacate the premises.”

The city noted that VFRS did not issue any eviction notices or order that the building be closed, stating only that “our directives have focused solely on ensuring that fire code violations and safety concerns are properly addressed and corrected.”

A notice was also posted by the property owner on the door of the Tiki Village office.

The notice stated that a fire inspection was conducted on November 12 and that the property had been officially deemed “Unsafe / uninhabitable due to hazardous electrical conditions” that posed a serious and immediate risk to health and safety.

The notice added that the property “cannot be lawfully occupied” and ordered that tenants vacate their units with all their personal belongings by November 19.
