Wildfire mitigation pile burns in Lake Country to start in November

Provincial and local fire crews will be undertaking wildfire mitigation efforts in Lake Country this fall and winter, which will result in smoke being visible in the area.

In the spring, the B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) worked with the District of Lake Country to construct approximately 100 piles of fire fuel.

About half of those piles had already been burnt, and the BCWS said the remainder would be burnt in the coming months.

The fires would be lit starting as early as Monday, November 3, weather and conditions permitting.

BCWS said there may be smoke and flames visible around Lake Country, but assured the public that these activities would be closely monitored and controlled.
