Practice evacuation drill for Magic and Wilden Estates

Sep 9, 2025 | 5:20 PM

Magic Estates and Wilden Estates in Kelowna will be evacuated late next month as part of an emergency practice drill.

The Kelowna Fire Department (KFD) and the City’s Emergency Management Program are partnering with the National Research Council of Canada (NRCC) to run a live evacuation drill Saturday, Oct. 25.

It’ll take three hours, and data gathered from the exercise will be used to improve emergency preparedness programming. The drill goes from 9 a.m. to noon.

Magic and Wilden residents are being asked to pre-register to participate.

In a media release Tuesday, the City said when emergencies strike, every second counts – and being prepared takes practice.

To ensure the drill is as successful as possible, the KFD encourages residents in the neighbourhoods of Magic and Wilden Estates to register and participate.

Residents’ participation will help improve the City’s evacuation procedures and provide hands-on practice on how to respond during an actual emergency evacuation. Snacks and beverages will be provided to participants.

Residents can register to participate in the practice before 4 p.m. on Sept. 30 online here.
