Kelowna and Vernon set new heat records
Record-breaking temperatures scorched the Okanagan on Tuesday as both Vernon and Kelowna set new daily highs.
Kelowna reached 37.1 C, edging past the previous mark of 36.2 set in 2017. Vernon also broke a record, climbing to 36.2 C and surpassing the 34.8 set eight years earlier.
The late-summer heat comes just days after the start of meteorological autumn, underscoring the intensity of the high-pressure system stalled over the B.C. Interior. The ridge has been driving temperatures well above seasonal averages, keeping conditions more typical of July than September.
Forecasters expect the hot spell to hold through the middle of the week before easing into the high 20s by the weekend. Until then, residents across the North and Central Okanagan can expect daytime highs to remain near record levels, with warm evenings offering little relief.
