Local MP meets with city officials

Kelowna’s newly elected MP, Liberal Stephen Fuhr, is settling into his role in Ottawa as he prepares to be officially sworn in Thursday.

Parliament is set to resume May 27 with a historic Speech from the Throne delivered by King Charles III.

Before departing for Ottawa after his election win, Fuhr met with local leaders to align on the city’s federal concerns.

“I met with the mayor, the city manager, and city staff to discuss the city’s priorities moving forward regarding federal support,” Fuhr said in an update he supplied the media. “Since then, we have maintained regular communication, and I have a clear understanding of those priorities. I will resume advocacy on the city’s behalf as soon as Parliament begins sitting.”

Fuhr is also in the final stages of setting up his constituency office and is expected to announce its location soon.

On May 13, Fuhr was sworn into the King’s Privy Council, something he called “an incredible experience that I will never forget.”

Fuhr was appointed Secretary of State for Defence Procurement, a role in which he is tasked with overseeing military acquisitions and ensuring the Canadian Armed Forces are adequately equipped.
