Precautionary Boil Water Notice issued for 19th St

Greater Vernon Water advised select customers to boil water following a water main break Monday.

GVW issued the precautionary notice for properties between 1800 and 1901 19th St. on March 31.

The utility provider said the water main break caused a loss of water pressure and increased turbidity, and said the notice would remain in place until sample testing showed the water was safe to drink.

People in the affected ares were encouraged to bring water to a roiling boil for a full minute before drinking; using to make or prepare food or drink, including ice and baby formula; and brushing teeth.

The watermain break may have area properties to have air in pipes or discoloured water. In those cases people were advised to run a tap on cold until the water turns clear, adding this should be done using an outside tap.
