Vernon Jazz Club looking to expand liquor service hours

The jazz club in downtown Vernon is looking to expand its capability for hosting events.

The Vernon Jazz Club applied to the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch to change it’s liquor service from the current hours of 7:15 to 11:45 p.m., to instead be able to serve between 11 a.m. and 1 a.m.

The non-profit, volunteer-run Vernon Jazz Club said expanding the hours of service would allow the club to have earlier start times for shows and events. It would also permit afternoon music workshops to be held on site, and allow for events that run later, such as New Year’s Eve celebrations, to be held at the club.

In a report presented to Vernon City Council at the regular meeting Monday, March 24, it was stated that the noise levels due to the proposed increase in hours was expected to be minimal due to the location within the downtown core. It also stated the increase in service hours would have a beneficial impact on the community as it supports alternative entertainment options.

The jazz club is located above Nolan’s Pharmasave at the intersection of 30th Avenue and 31st Street. The report said the area businesses and residents were asked to provide input about the proposed change to the liquor service hours, but there were no responses submitted.

Vernon City Council received the report and voted unanimously in favour of support the Vernon Jazz Club’s application for a change in hours of liquor service.
