— Update —

The collision on the highway through Coldstream Tuesday reportedly occurred when a cyclist lost control and crashed into a vehicle.

Vernon RCMP were dispatched to the scene of the crash on Highway 6 at Ricardo Road, near the Vegpro International warehouse, for reports of a cyclist and vehicle collision at 3 p.m. March 25.

Investigators determined the cyclist was riding an e-bike, heading west on the highway, when a pickup truck also going west pulled out to pass and provide space for the rider.

The cyclist reportedly lost control and struck the rear passenger side of the truck as it was passing, resulting in the cyclist falling to the ground.

The RCMP and Emergency Health Services said the cyclist was treated at the scene then transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the driver remained on the scene and was cooperative with police, and an independent witness was also present and provided a statement to police.

The collision did result in Ricardo Road being temporarily blocked off by first responders Tuesday, but did not result in any highway closures.
