Commercial driving offers stability, flexibility, and great earning potential. It all starts with the right training.

Taylor Pro Training in Vernon was recently voted Best of the Best Driving School. Aside from this recognition, their record speaks for itself: one of the best pass rates for students in BC taking the ICBC driver test.

“We set you up for success,” stated Cindy Helfrich.

She credits Taylor Pro’s instructors. “We’re very fortunate to have three great instructors here, and they really take it to heart,” said Cindy. “I think that’s why we’re so successful.”

While Taylor Pro Training’s four locations offer various programs, the one in Vernon is focused exclusively on commercial drivers.

In 2021, the Mandatory Entry Level Training (MELT) program raised the bar for obtaining a truck driver’s license. The prerequisite in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario, MELT requires 140 hours of training. Taylor Pro exceeds these standards, ensuring their graduates are prepared for the test and ready to hit the road safely.

It’s also easier to book the ICBC road test, because Cindy handles that for them. Taylor Pro Training’s special allotments allow them to get their students in much faster than what could otherwise be a months-long wait.

For students without employment already lined up, the school can provide reference letters after graduation. Cindy also noted that the instructors get to know each student during the hours of one-on-one training and can usually recommend companies that might be a good fit.

Although job listings often say you need 1-2 years of experience, Cindy says their training goes a long way. “Most companies will give you a chance even though you are a new driver. If you go in there with a great attitude, the certificate of completion, and a clean driver’s abstract, they usually will take you because they’re going to put your through their company’s training program anyway.”

Taylor Pro Training also points students toward funding options that make the program financially accessible.

Whether you’re looking for a career as a trucker, a bus driver, dump truck operator, or maybe a post-retirement part-time job shuttling people around on wine tours, Taylor Pro Training can help get you licensed.

Call or email, and Cindy will walk you through the steps.
