Baseball diamond in Grindrod restored

The Grindrod Park baseball diamond has been brought back to life.

The Regional District of North Okanagan said the existing ball diamond has been improved and upgraded to restore it to a safe and playable condition.

That restoration work included the installation of a new infield, backstop, sideline fencing, covered player benches, bases, foul poles, and an upgraded waterline.

Enderby and Electoral Area F (Enderby Rural) has seen significant growth in the past decade, and the upgrades are intended to address the increased demand for youth and adult sport that has come along with that growth.

“I am excited to see this addition to our ball diamond inventory,” City of Enderby Councillor Shawn Shishido, and Chair of the Enderby and District Services Commission, said.

“User group demand exceeds what is available and it only continues to grow. Providing great recreation opportunities is essential to having a healthy, vibrant community.”

The upgrades to the ball diamond were jointly funded through the Enderby and District Services Commission and the RDNO Electoral Area F Parks service.

“We are committed to enhancing recreational infrastructure in the area to ensure that residents and visitors have access to high-quality facilities,” Allysa Hopkins, Director of RDNO Electoral Area F, said.

“These upgrades will not only support the growing demand for youth baseball in the region but also provide adult leagues more opportunities to enjoy the sport.”

The upgrades to the park align with the Electoral Area F Parks and Culture Master Plan, which has a key objective of providing community infrastructure that meets the needs of residents and visitors, is in good condition, and allows for the growth of programming and participation.
