Former Vernon doctor sentenced in sexual assault case, due back in court in August

A former Vernon doctor was sentenced to over five years of prison time in a sexual assault case.

Peter Inkpen appeared in Vernon Law Courts for sentencing of three charges of sexual assault Wednesday, July 24.

Inkpen had plead guilty to the charges in February, 2024, which reportedly occurred between 2018 and 2020.

The B.C. Prosecution Service told Vernon Matters that Inkpen, 44, appeared in court Wednesday, where he was sentenced for one count of assault to 1,890 days of jail, though he was credited with 74 days for time spent in custody prior to sentencing, so will have 1,816 days left to serve, or just under five years.

Inkpen was also sentenced for two counts of sexual assault, each of which carries a three month jail term that will run consecutively.

The court also imposed a DNA order, a 10-year firearm prohibition, and a $200 victim fine surcharge on each count.

Though he was sentenced, Inkpen’s trial had was not concluded Thursday. He was ordered to appear in court again on August 15.
