A well-known social services agency is celebrating a major milestone.

North Okanagan Youth and Family Services Society, which got is start in 1974, has announced plans to commemorate its 50th anniversary in 2024.

NOYFSS provides a broad range of social programs to support the needs of children, youth and families.

“From humble beginnings, first operating one resource, Mara House, we have grown into a provincially recognized, accredited, social agency with close to 100 employees, serving over 1,200 families annually. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of a committed team, board and the support from the North Okanagan Community,” a NOYFSS news release stated.

Executive director Dean Francks said he couldn’t be more proud of their board and entire staff team who deliver valuable programs and services to the community.

“Thanks to the leadership and staff before us who did such a great job positioning NOYFSS as a strong organization in our community,” Francks said. “I am honored to continue on with their legacy and work with our management and staff team to provide much-needed programs and services to children, youth and families of the North Okanagan for years to come.”

Over the past five decades, NOYFSS has achieved numerous milestones that have shaped the social services landscape

“We are proud to be seen as a cornerstone agency advocating for and supporting the needs of children, youth and families,” Francks added.

Krista Ingram, past chair and board member, congratulated the NOYFSS staff and management on what she called “an extraordinary 50 years of service.”

“Our staff and management focus on inclusivity and team-building, are encouraged in their career development, and are supported in health and wellness programs,” Ingram pronounced. “To say we as board members are proud of all NOYFSS has done is an understatement. Thank you to all those who have supported us and made NOYFSS the outstanding example of child and family support in our community that it is today.”

The public is invited to join the social agency in celebrating its milestone with events like a community appreciation BBQ, sponsored by Davidson Lawyers, on Sept. 14 in Polson Park.

There will also be prize draws for family friendly activities throughout the summer.
