An upgrade to Husband Road in Coldstream will go ahead this spring.

District council has awarded the contract to Nixon Earthworks for $769, 548, the lowest of two bids that were submitted.

In addition to addressing the condition of the road, the design also includes drainage improvements and widening the north side of the road to better accommodate bicycles, improving safety along the road.

A pavement assessment in 2021 by Urban Systems said that Husband Road, from Kalamalka Road to the intersection with Mariposa Place and Sunflower Place, was in very poor to failed condition.

Here are the other highlights from Coldstream council’s April 22 meeting:

Award for Financial Reporting Achievement

Jeremy Sundin, Director of Financial Administration, was presented with the Government Finance Officers Association Canadian award for financial reporting for the year ended December 31, 2022.

Mr. Sundin remarked, “This award represents the ongoing commitment of council to have the Coldstream Annual Report prepared to the standard required to achieve this award. It’s certainly a team effort and the District wouldn’t be successful without the support of many talented people. I am very privileged to accept this award on the District’s behalf.”

Kal Lake Rotary Pier

Council received a presentation from the representatives of the Kalamalka, Silver Star and Vernon Rotary Chapters.

The Rotarians would like to contribute funding and signage to continue the “Rotary” name on the pier as well as contribute to building supports to make the lake and pier accessible to all users.

This matter will be included on Council’s May 13, 2024 open agenda for further discussion.
